The central government gave a huge gift to crores of sugarcane growers!
The central government has announced a bumper contribution to the sugarcane growers of the country. Through this, it can be said that the problem faced by the sugarcane growers for many years has been fairly solved. Keeping in mind the interest of sugarcane growers, the Economic Transactions Ministry Board chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a bumper contribution.
The government has approved the FRP (Fair and Remunerative Price) for sugarcane to be paid by sugar mills to sugarcane farmers for the 2022-23 sugar season. At this time, the highest price for sugarcane growers was Rs 305 per quintal. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given this information.
To increase the income of sugarcane farmers, the central government on Wednesday fixed the price of sugarcane at Rs 305 per quintal (FRP). It has been decided to increase FRP (Fair And Remunerative Price) of sugarcane in the Cabinet meeting.
What is FRP
FRP is the minimum rate required by sugar mills to buy sugarcane from farmers. The government fixes the FRP under the Sugarcane (Control) Order, 1966. A cabinet note raising FRP by Rs 15 per quintal had already been issued.
The sugarcane price (FRP) has increased to Rs 305 per quintal from Rs 290 per quintal earlier.
The government has increased the FRP by 34 per cent in the last eight years. This will benefit 5 crore sugarcane farmers and 5 lakh workers working in sugar mills across the country.
The sugarcane harvesting season usually starts in October-November and lasts till mid-April. According to government sources, the Center has given permission to export an additional 1.2 million tonnes (MT) of sugar besides increasing the price of sugarcane.
The decision was taken as production for the current season, which ends in September 2022, exceeds the estimated domestic production. However, the government notification in this regard is still awaited.
